2009-2010 Photography Class Info:
Meeting Time - Mondays at 2PM
Tuition cost: $272 for one year, and $25 copy/lab fees.
Course Description:
From landscapes, to portraits, objects, studio, action, abstract, sports, and night photography, this class will prepare the student to make the most out of the camera so that he/she can take the best photos in any kind of situation.
This class is designed to offer you more than just weekly lessons in photography, it is designed to help you develop a skill that will benefit you for years to come.
Textbook: Scott Kelby - The Digital Photography Book - Volume I (buy it from Amazon here.)
Course Requirements - all students are required to have a digital SLR camera. Preferred camera: Nikon D40 (18-55mm lens included)
Other recommended cameras are listed below. They all come with the excellent 18-55mm, 18-105, or 18-135mm lenses. Please do not base your purchase on the number of megapixels (which doesn't matter!), but rather on your budget. These cameras are all in the same category and render the same image quality. The only significant differences are in screen size, low light ISO and the way they handle off camera flash.
The Canon T1i and Nikon D90 cameras are by far the best cameras listed here, but not recommended for beginner students. They are much more sophisticated and offer a variety of controls, functions, and features the other cameras do not offer.
Please do not purchase these cameras via eBay or any other stores that promise you better prices. more than likely they will be a scam (it has happened to RTA students in the past). Also, local stores like Best Buy, Sam's club and Office Depot will charge you considerably more and offer you no specialized customer service should any problems occur. Lastly, you are encouraged to only buy cameras in brand new condition, which will guarantee you a 5 year manufacturer warranty.
Recommended Software (not required) for organizing and editing photos: ACDSee Pro 2.5 ($110) or Picasa (free)
